Lumber Ridge Laurel Mists – Finished!

I finished my Laurel Mists shawl! After I opened Clue 5, I was both excited and completely demotivated by the lace! I put the project away for about a week before tackling it. It took me almost an hour to knit one row! Then I realized it was a 4 row repeat and for some reason that made the lace rows much easier to tackle. Sometimes it’s just that way!

I like the design a lot! The shawl is well-designed, as it introduces ideas and then reintroduces them later in different ways. It’s quite large and I think when I get a bigger space I might play with blocking it out differently. The mosaic sections were my first experience with color work (other than stripes), and that was fun! I would try another mystery knit along at some point!

I’m not sure how I feel about the color combination. I wish the Desert Clay was a shade darker and a little more saturated, something to match the rose colors in the Wanderlust sock blank. I’ll feel much better about it after it’s had some time sitting on my dressform.

After all that knitting, this is what I have left:

  • Main Color (Desert Clay) – 5 grams
  • Contrast Color 1 (Wanderlust Sock Blank) – 7 grams
  • Contrast Color 2 (Lost Lagoon) – 31 grams

As you can tell, even though I used a smaller needle (US 4, 3.5 mm), I came very close to using up all the yarn. I didn’t measure for gauge but it came out to be about the expected measurements after blocking.

If you’ve been knitting along, have you finished up your Laurel Mists shawl yet? Did you enjoy the mystery? Will you try another MKAL at some point? What’s your next project? If you’d like to make your own, you can pick up the pattern on Ravelry or the SweetGeorgia website!
