Show Up!

I’ve been so busy this spring and summer, but good things are on their way! We recently purchased a house and are preparing to move in a few weeks. I can’t wait to have a dedicated space for all my art and craft supplies! I’m hoping that it will motivate me to make more things, because I’ll have the space to spread out fabric and leave projects in the open. Hopefully as we move into Fall I will have more time to dedicate to making things and sharing what I’m up to with you. We’ll see!

Show Up!

Completed Show Up! Embroidery Kit

In packing and shifting things around I’ve been recently inspired to do more hand embroidery lately. I recently finished stitching an embroidery kit I bought near the beginning of the pandemic. I love the inspirational message and look forward to frame it in my new home. You can buy a full kit from CozyBlue Hand Embroidery. There are also PDF, fabric-only, and iron-on options available for the same design. I was challenged by the satin stitch in the design, which I’ve always been intimidated to stitch. This was a good kit for me to stretch my hand embroidery skills.

Embroidered Sampler Book Kit

Needlebook Preprinted Fabric Cover

I am fascinated by the embroidered sampler books I’ve seen from Un Chat dans L’aiguille. Those embroidery sampler books are a little intimidating for me though! I recently found a needlebook kit which includes some sampler embroidery pages which I ended up ordering. Even though I don’t need another needlebook, I like the idea of having a stitch reference close to my needles.

Needlebook Preprinted Fabric Pages

When I received the kit I loved the quality of the preprinted linen, and the suggestion of using lightweight stabilizer on the back is something I haven’t seen before for hand embroidery. What I found most inspiring though, was the four full skeins of hand dyed embroidery floss. I love knitting with hand-dyed yarn, especially low immersion yarn with a lot of color variation. The included booklet mentions quite a few other colors not included in the kit, and I really wanted to try them out. I couldn’t find anyone in the US that carried many options of the particular line from the kit so I’m patiently waiting for my order to arrive from Australia before I get started on this!

Hand-dyed Embroider Floss Skeins

The kit is very high quality, including the choice from four different Liberty fabrics. The kit lists the four skeins of embroidery floss but doesn’t mention the other colors required to make the kit as shown. Since it’s a sampler it doesn’t really matter what colors are used, but I wish I had known earlier as I could have ordered them when I ordered the kit.

Conclusion

I hope you are keeping busy with lots of making! I personally feel very good when I finish making something, and I’m starting to appreciate just learning something new with each project. I’m looking forward to working on this latest embroidery kit and all the things I’ll learn from it. Hopefully I’ll get to finish it before we move!
