Lace Repair

repaired lace dress

During my wedding reception, I tore the skirt of my wedding dress near the hem. Thankfully for me I can sew and was able to make a repair. I don’t know when I’ll ever wear this gown again, but it felt good to fix it. You can use the same method to repair any lace design. Let me show you how I did it!

Method

I used a video from Professor Pincushion to fix my lace gown. It was helpful for me, so it might work for you! I used a fine white applique thread (I believe it was Aurifil 80wt thread) to make the repair. I set a piece of black fabric underneath the section so that I could see the tear better.

After pinning the lace in place I started to make the mend. It’s more visible on the left hand side where I couldn’t hide my stitches in the lace motif, but from far away you can barely see it. I had a hard time finding it when I showed my husband!

From six feet above no one will notice this, and I feel so much better that I fixed my gown!
