Personalized Makeup Case

Several makeup bags lined up, complete with iron-on applique on the lid.

I wanted to give a nice gift to some of my closest dancing friends this year, and decided on a personalized makeup case. I bought several of the Sephora Pack it All Organizers when Sephora had their big annual sale in November (30% off!) and ordered all the ladies’ initials from this Etsy listing. Let me share how I put this quick gift together!

Tools/Materials Needed

  • Makeup Bag
  • Iron-on Applique
  • Iron & Ironing Board/Mat
  • Fluffy Towel

I picked this particular makeup bag because I wanted something sturdy enough for all our performance makeup and tools, as well as for transporting to the theater or other performance venues. It’s often out of stock online but worth waiting for or searching out a store that has it in stock. The lid is perfect for holding brushes, pencils or tube eye/lip products. There are also three included zippered makeup bags for organization – two cubes and one flat case. It’s worth the retail price, but if you can wait and get a 20% or 30% discount, it’s really a great deal!

Method

The iron-on appliques came with great instructions, but the case is made of nylon and I was worried about melting the fabric. I did a test with one applique and my initial, using a fluffy towel as a pressing cloth. It turned out great! I did not iron the back side of the lid because the material is quite thick and I didn’t think it would very effective.

The letters are in a very elegant script and the red is a striking color against the black case. If the letters start peeling off we can reattach them using E6000 or some other fabric glue.

We had a holiday dinner earlier this week where we exchanged gifts and I was able to deliver the personalized makeup cases. They really liked them a lot! What do you think? Do you have an easy gift idea for your team? Don’t forget you can find all my tutorials here on the website!
