Fabric Christmas Tags

I wanted to make some fabric Christmas tags this year that we can reuse year after year. I am so inspired by the ones Amy Sinibaldi and Kristyne Czepuryk made in their 2012 Holiday Tag-a-Long. Amy makes some of the cutest things! I found the patterns for her tags’ appliques in an article she wrote for AllPeopleQuilt.com. I was so happy, as I find her designs to be really charming and it’s so nice that I don’t have to try to draw my own. Let me show you what I’ve made so far!

Christmas Tree with Embroidered Initial

The first tag I made is for my husband, who picked the tree design. I tried to color match the embroidered initial to the greens in the tree fabric, which I matched well but I would have liked a little more contrast. This was the only one that I didn’t use a little wool felt on, and it feels a little flimsy to me. But he likes it so who am I to argue with?

Tag with Embroidered Initial

The next tag I made is a wool felt applique with my initial. I used three strands of embroidery floss and a chain stitch, and really like how well this turned out.

Reindeer with Wreath & Bow

I think this next tag is my favorite. Instead of a collar with bell I used this ruched silk ribbon technique to attach a green wreath as the reindeer’s collar. I then made a silk ribbon bow and tacked it to the front. I think if I was to make this design again I would do a couple things differently but I’m still so happy with this.

Gingerbread Man

Up next is a little gingerbread man with a cute hat. I tried to embroider a face on him but I didn’t like how it looked, so settled for sequins instead. Very reminiscent of gumdrops, don’t you think?

Christmas Tree with Sequins

Last but not least is an understated tree under falling sequin snow and decorated with a single gold sequin at the top.

I’m very happy with how all the tags turned out, and look forward to adding to our collection every year. Gift tags are such a quick thing to make and the most difficult thing is deciding how you want to decorate them!
