Avant Legwarmers

Have you knit legwarmers before? I have been wanting to make a pair ever since I started knitting, but always put it off because all those fingering-weight rounds were intimidating! I finally found the perfect pattern in friendly plush worsted weight yarn in Felicia Lo’s Après sock pattern, from the book Operation Sock Drawer. These legwarmers are so comfy! I can’t wait to make another pair!

It’s really easy to convert any sock pattern for legwarmers – just omit the heel and toe, and I made the foot slightly shorter so that I could wear my dance shoes without stepping on them. Knit five rows before starting the instep pattern. I love the eye-of-partridge instep and how it hugs the foot so well! SweetGeorgia Superwash Worsted was used in Marine and Rainbow Sprinkles, and a bit of Lollipop in ToughLoveSock for one row and bind on/off. When I make these again I’ll use a ribbing pattern for the toe/heel areas as I don’t care for how the fabric rolls.

These knit up very quickly and were great practice for two color brioche! Have you made legwarmers before? What’s your favorite pattern? I hope you try making these Avant Legwarmers! They’re a great beginning sock project!
