Colour Field Scarves

One of the things I’ve been focusing on this year is learning how to weave. I borrowed a copy of Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom from the library (and later purchased my own copy). I also purchased a subscription to the School of SweetGeorgia and have been enjoying the classes there! It’s not quite as easy as watching their YouTube channel but the content is so good! It’s a bit like Craftsy/Bluprint but focused on the Fiber Arts. The Colour Field Scarf is one of the projects in their Rigid Heddle Weaving class, and I enjoyed making the first scarf so much I made a second one! These are both for Christmas gifts and I can’t wait to give them to their recipients.

I modified the pattern slightly, to use a SweetGeorgia Party of Five mini skein set and a skein of their BFL Silk Lace. The darker, russet scarf is in Throwback and Arbutus and the orange sherbet scarf is in Jellybean and Grapefruit. I really like how differently both scarves turned out and can’t wait to make more!

The scarves are finished with hemstitch and a twisted fringe. I used a quilting ruler and rotary cutter to quickly cut the warp ends to 6″ and did a two-strand twisted fringe with two ends each. This is what worked out best for me and the number of warp ends I ended up with. This is my favorite way to finish handwoven scarves! A quick dip in a little Soak and a steam press after they dry is a great way to finish these up before wrapping them up!

How has your holiday crafting been? Have you using any new skills you picked up this year? If you’ve been taking the School of SweetGeorgia Rigid Heddle class, did you make a Colour Field Scarf? How did it turn out for you?
